We are very fortunate in that there are several contemporaneous accounts of the escape including memoirs by several people involved. There is even a record by the King himself, dictated to Samuel Pepys. The most important accounts were published in 1857 in a volume called The Boscobel Tracts edited by J. Hughes. The text also includes a detailed account of the escape written by Hughes and derived from the various original sources.
